I have been reading the many NextDoor readers' comments regarding the firing of Manhattan Beach Fire Chief Daryn Drum, and even though the thread has gotten away from the original subject I am glad people are finally beginning to see the light.
Major League Baseball has a problem. But the way they are going about solving things is not helping their cause. Before I begin I must say that I support baseball, in fact some of my best friends play baseball. The angry letters I have read have rightly criticized the destructive behavior exhibited by hooligans and ne'er-do-wells associated with MLB.
So let’s start with MLB supporters. Almost every MLB game I have attended I have seen fights break out. Drunken “fans” (I call them thugs, people who glorify violence) disrupt a peaceful event by assaulting people, destroying property, breaking the law and instigating unrest. I, and other like-minded NextDoor neighbors, can not support any organization that thinks this is acceptable behavior. I suggest a much more visible police presence at these unruly occasions and stronger measures to counter these agitators, maybe even military. Sometimes it appears the fights are organized, sometimes not but the result is a spectacle most people I know wouldn’t want to be a part of.
I, and my fellow NextDoor contributors, also have a problem with the founders of MLB; their agenda and politics. MLB management has a long history of looking the other way and even encouraging this kind of behavior. Beer is sold in the stands. Before the game even starts tailgate parties abound with hot dogs and beer flowing everywhere. But these lowlifes have to know: when the buns come out the guns come out.
It is true that many MLB founders and leaders displayed blatantly racist attitudes. Some even have statues erected in their memory; some are in the Hall of Fame. However that is in the past, a time we must ignore if we are going to ever restore MLB to its glory days.
Naturally we support the rights of every human being to be paid fairly and treated equally under the law. We just don’t approve of the way they are going about it or the people involved.
Finally their frantic effort to “defund” the game by eliminating all supporters in the stands is misguided at best. I personally would never want to attend a game where there were no spectators.
Oh wait. I am so sorry. I misread the acronym. All of the previous letters were criticizing BLM, not MLB. Oh well, as Emily Litella would say: Nevermind.
